[Pansophy] C100 spare helium vessel items & headers bellows QC

Hi All,

These parts were received on the C100 project per the paperwork and are available for C100 Travelers. Please note that per the Traveler system, C100 & C100R are two distinct projects, therefore serial numbers do not cross over.

Gary,

I will have to get into the database to make the project change for the dropdowns. Should Inventory be changed as well?

Thanks,

Hi Anne,

The travelers for QC of the spare C100 parts are approved:
C100R-CMA-HELV-INSP
C100R-CMA-HERB-INSP
C100R-CMA-HESB-INSP

I noted Mike to populate the HESB and HERB dropdown lists.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary

We heard this morning that the first C100 Cavity tested this weekend in the VTA field emitted badly (even caused neutrons …. )

So I am expecting they may want to use one or more of the spare C100 cavities (Tony confirmed they will ne hundting down any of the C100 spares they can find) , in which case somone is going to come looking for the HE Vessel items

I had inventory bring the parts down a month ago (did not realize the traveler was not available) – so now given the performance of the C100 cavities , could you let us know when the traveler will be available –

please let us know if any help is needed

Thanks Anne

Hi Anne,

It's on my list of things-to-do. I will find time to work on it and let you know when it is ready for use.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary – I was wondering if you had a chance to look into the traveler for the HR Vessel for C100R ?

If you need help please let us know – the parts are presently on our shelf so we can inspect them once we have the traveler

Thanks Anne

Hi Gary

I had the C100 HE Vessel parts for the two spare HE Vessels brought to the CMM room shelf last week by Inventory – just wanted to make sure they were not forgotten (assume they are not urgent )

Could you let us know which traveler to use - if you are still in process of updating or converting it just let me know the expected Traveler acronym , so I can put it on my list

Thanks Anne

Hi Tony,

Ok I will convert the travelers.

C100 has a magnetic shielding design goal of attenuating the earth magnetic field by 50 or 100 times. that is, assuming a .5 Gauss ambient field, the goal is to have 5~10 mG residual field on cavity surface. To achieve that, I primarily focused on the shield design.

The C100 helium vessels were discovered to have remanent magnetic field later on after we start to receive them from vendor. Hence we started to measure the permeability. As you know, demagnetization started on the L2 cavities and CM components.

To my knowledge, C100 refurb project does not require a change to C100 in regard to magnetic hygiene. To me, the permeability measurement is not informative on what remanent field a component has. I wouldn't suggest to continue doing that. So, if you agree, I will remove that step from inspection. Alternatively, I may adapt this step to ask for magnetic field measurement and demagnetize with the available demagnetizers to the best that we can do.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,

The travelers need to be converted and the names updated please. As for magnetic hygiene, do we have a program or requirement for C100s? Are we demagnetizing any other parts? Does t make sense to demag spares now or when they are certain to go onto a cavity? Is there a specification for the permeability that the vendor needed to meet?
Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony,

Do you think I should convert C100 helium vessel and cryogenic circuit inspection travelers to C100R versions, or, use the old ones as is? The old travelers still have John Hogan as project manager.

The C100 helium vessel traveler has a step for magnetic permeability measurement, our original effort on magnetic hygiene control at the time. We can choose to i) keep this as is, ii) remove it, or iii) rewrite it to survey parts then demagnetize if necessary to align with LCLS-II magnetic hygiene control strategy.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Tony,

We just received a few kits of C100 helium vessel kits and helium header bellows, which will be used as spares for future C100 refurb. They need to go through incoming inspection like did for other C100 HV items and headers parts. They were purchased using code C1010F. Which code is appropriate for the inspection work?

Thanks,
Gary
