[Pansophy] Faraday Window Manifold

Hi Mike,

Do I need to come up with acronyms for these part serial numbers? I'm not sure what my next step is for getting the existing parts serialized and getting the acronym list in the system for the traveler.

Here are suggestions for the acronyms if they'll work with the system (but I'm fine with using whatever works best):

*         Faraday Port Windows (F10040909) - FWMWIN

* Faraday Window Manifold Weldment (F10045762) - FWMWELD

Hi Mike - Thanks for reminding me - I did put the requirement to add a serial number to the window (part 2) and the weldment (part 1) in the Statement of Work. I actually made a mistake in the drawing numbers for the serialization that I am working to correct now. I did not include a requirement to serialize part 4.

So I believe we will have the following Serial Numbers arriving from the vendor.

F10040909
Faraday Port Windows
F10045762
Faraday Window Manifold Weldment
1
F10040909---001
F10045762-A-001
2
F10040909---002
F10045762-A-002
3
F10040909---003
F10045762-A-003
4
F10040909---004
F10045762-A-004
5
F10040909---005
F10045762-A-005
6
F10040909---006
F10045762-A-006
7
F10040909---007
F10045762-A-007
8
F10040909---008
F10045762-A-008
9
F10040909---009
F10045762-A-009

There is one set of parts for a Faraday Window Manifold currently in inventory that were sent from FNAL. I am not sure if this part has serial numbers yet or not. In either case, I would assume we would want to serialize these parts in a manner similar to the others. Perhaps we could add a serial number to these parts in-house such that they are F10040909---000 and F10045762-A-000?

Hi Tiffany,

We will need to know which parts and where on the part to engrave the serial number. I expect that items 1, 2, & 4 will be engraved. Item 3 should have a manufacture supplied serial number. The preferred method is to have the vendor do the engraving/etching. Parts should be marked with a unique identifier, Part Number-Rev-SN. Assigning just a serial number to the 3 parts of the assembly breaks this rule. As an assembly, only the main part, item 1, should be serialized, F10040886-C-01. If each part is engraved, F10045762-A-001, F10040909---01, F10046507---01.

For the travelers, acronyms will be required, generally based on the name of the part. I'll wait for your decision on serializing the parts before moving on with acronyms.

Based on Brian's response below, I believe we need an incoming inspection traveler for the Faraday Window Manifolds (see attached drawing). We currently have one in house (sent from Fermilab) and have ordered ~10 more to be made by a vendor. I do not believe that these manifolds are currently serialized; however, in order to create a traveler to document inspecting them, I think we need to add serial numbers.

What's the process for creating serial numbers for these manifolds and getting them added to part(s)? Since the final assembly has 3-4 parts that could be disassembled for cleaning, so do all of them need to be marked with the same serial number, or do they need separate serial numbers?

Hi Tiffany,

It appears we ordered these as complete assembled assemblies from Lesker in 2017. No dimensional checks were done, and incoming QC consisted of a leak check and visual inspection. After that they were routed to magnetic hygiene, then they were put in storage until used for beamline assembly.

The one dimension I might recommend confirming is the window thickness since that's a fairly critical one, and would be needed to comply with beam window safety standards here at Fermilab. If you have similar beam window engineering note requirements at JLab, I could forward you the note written for this.

Hi Brian -

For the Faraday Window Manifold, what inspection(s) are done at FNAL on the Faraday Window Manifold - individual components and/or assembly - prior to string assembly? For example dimensional, magnetic, or visual inspection. I didn't see any inspection requirements in the vCM traveler nor the FWM drawing, other than the leak check.
