Hello Christiana ,

Gigi reminded me of the email with steps for preparing the end groups (it includes serialization )

I have pasted his mail below.

Best wishes - Anne

Subject: Steps for preparing C20 end groups for shipment to RI

Hi Christiana and Scott,
here is the list of steps I can come up with to guide the process of preparing C20 end groups for shipment to RI:

  1. Measure QextFPC
  2. CMM inspection and serialization of the end-groups. The serialization convention we followed in the past was "EG-CavSN" for both FPC and HOM end-groups. "CavSN" is typically "IAxxx" where xxx is a serial number. Data are recorded in travelers C20-CAV-INSP-FPCEG and C20-CAV-INSP-HOMEG. Knowing the CavSN of the cavities allows pre-populating the list of end-group SNs in the Travelers, so that they are available to be selected when the Travelers are filled in.
  3. End-groups are cut in the machine shop by wire-edm
  4. End-groups are degreased, rinsed, dried and bagged
  5. End-groups are packed in a crate and a packing list is created, in which the end-groups SNs are double-checked and listed. The packing list is attached to the Shipping Form
  6. End-groups are shipped to RI
Feel free to comment about the steps above. Step 1 and 2 can occur in parallel and in whichever order allows for faster throughput.
Does a formal procedure need to be written to capture this, for future reference?

Thanks,
Gigi

Hi Anne,
Will you be putting serial numbers on the end groups?

Hi all

We put this cavity (IA-196) in the schedule for CMM tomorrow (Thursday) , ahead of HE 068

I have sent a note to the Pansophy team to request that the SN be added

FYI- Gigi indicated (see below) that he wanted it checked by Tuning before going to the machine shop to have the end groups cut off

Best wishes Anne

Hi Anne,

the cavity is already outside the CMM room.

Thanks,

Hello Mike & Calvin

Could you please bring the cavity mentioned by Gigi to the CMM room so that we can start the process to have them checked

Thanks Anne

Hi Tony,

I had told RI that they can expect the 2nd set of 8 end-groups from the C20 cavities currently being disassembled around the end of July. Is that still accurate? It would be great if the ones from IA196 could be shipped with those other ones...

Thanks,

Gigi

Hi All,

I agree we need to check the end groups and use them for C75 if they are good. Please work this into the plans.

Gigi, do you have a feel for how urgent it is to send the end groups to RI?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Kirk,

I accidentally noticed a few days ago a C20 cavity (IA196) laying in the cavity storage area with some shipping peanuts in it. The end-groups look reasonably good. I checked with CMM and Scott and apparently that cavity escaped a few end-group "treasure hunts". Who know when and how it got in the cavity storage area...

I would be good to have the end-groups quickly inspected and cut (if good) for 2 reasons:

  * one set of end-groups on one cavity from the last C20 CM is still radioactive
  * RI would need to use a "spare" welded-style end-group, which is different style from all others and requires them to machine some of the parts differently for that end-groups than all the others. They've mildly complained about it.

You may check what are the options to schedule the QextFPC check and the CMM inspection.

Thanks,

Gigi
