It appears the SRF hasn’t been using the full capabilities of remote-working environment.

I mentioned that you were not able to login into DocuShare to approve travelers and such, so they would like to work with you to see how to better setup your remote-work environment.

This began because of my team needing computers at the lab to remote-desktop into in order to access our software and get access to files behind the firewall. However, the new environment should allow for
this to happen without requiring a computer at JLab. By using the VPN or VDI software you should be able to login from your home computer/laptop and it should be just like you are sitting at your desk.

So, I asked the computer center to help SRF get this setup properly. You are the first.

If there are any others in your group that would like help in setting up the “work from home” environment, I now have the computer center’s attention and they are willing to help us out. Please let me know
if there are others who would like to try their new VPN environment. I also spoke to them about the software that your group uses, which requires a lot of computer power, and they are will to help us with that as well. If I have forgotten any other needs that
your group may require, please let me know and I will work with the computer center to get things setup.

I guess I have become the POC for remote-work computer setups for SRF, because I asked first, but we can get this available for anyone who needs this type of environment.

FYI: the computer center / JLab is going to more laptops for the new hybrid/remote-work that is anticipated once JLab is out of MEDCON. The feeling is that most software can be loaded onto a laptop which can
be used from home via the VPN access and then a docking station would be at your desk for when you are in the office.
