[PRad] PRad-II/X17 simulation meeting Dec. 2nd

Hello,

I have spoken with Erik and we are making a plan to look at this. I am largely focused on background studies at the moment, but a lot of the code that I have written overlaps with what Erik needs to do this study. We will coordinate on this soon.

I suspect that covering the first layer will be quite detrimental to X17 due to the forward peaking of the cross section and the added forward boost of running at 4.4 GeV. Preliminary numbers have suggested that 2.2 GeV is not ideal due to increased frequency of losing the recoil electron to high angles, but I haven’t yet determined whether this is then mitigated by the decreased background. I’ll keep on it.

Regarding the third option of reversing the run order, I briefly ran it by Doug this morning. It seems that it’s not completely off the table, but it is not tremendously likely due to requirements and desires of other halls.

A question: What is the reason for looking at 150 nA for 4.4 GeV? I don’t recall this discussion (though it may have happened during the Friday meeting after the collaboration meeting when I was unable to attend). I suppose it is worth considering, however given that we were discussing that the rate may be difficult to deal with during the collaboration meeting, we may find that going up to 150 nA is difficult since the background rates will be higher at 4.4 GeV. From playing with MadGraph5, the integrated xs for BH is ~33% higher at 4.4 GeV though I haven’t taken acceptance into account yet.

Best,
Tyler

Dear all,

For those of you who have trouble attending the meeting today, if you wish, please take a look at the minutes and slides that I recorded here:
