Rory,
I hope this email finds you well. Just thought I’d send an email along
with an update on my status.
Things are going very well for me. I’ve been stationed at Brooks City
Base in San Antonio, TX. I’m slated to move to Wright-Patterson AFB in
Dayton Ohio in the next few years. I currently run the AF
Radioanalytical Lab. We process all manner of sample matrices-soil,
water, swipes, biological… It’s been interesting learning about
radiochemistry brushing up on nuclear and atomic physics, and learning
new analytical methods like ICP-MS. The other part of my job is as the
Team Chief for the Air Force Radiation Assessment Team (AFRAT). We are
the DoD’s radiation health experts, and this means I’ve picked up a lot
of health physics. AFRAT responds to any incident involving radiological
hazards like a Broken Arrow, RDD, nuclear detonation, and so on.
Here‘s a story about one of my many training missions -

Jen is pregnant and we are expecting the child in early April.
I’m really happy in the Air Force, at least for now. I’ve got several
interesting opportunities ranging from training as the AF version of an
Industrial Hygienist to Combat Rescue. My current job running a
production lab has been incredibly interesting.
How are things on your end? And PrimEx? I see that the target paper was
published. Anything else in the works?
