Dear Colleagues,
Good news! The proceedings of JPos17 have been submitted to AIP Publishing and will soon be
available for perpetual free on-line access for anyone. In addition, a limited number of paper
copies will be printed and mailed to contributing presenters.
What’s next? As forecast, we would now like to begin the path of developing a White Paper on
Positron Physics at Jefferson Lab. It is a lengthy process, so we realistically intend to provide
this to lab management in early 2019.
To kick-start this effort, we are organizing to submit a collaborative Letter-of-Intent to PAC 46
(July 16-20, 2018) for a positron experimental program at CEBAF 12 GeV. We propose to gather in one
document several individual topics, each with persons of contact and dedicated to a specific experiment.
So far, we identify several classes of experiments: deeply virtual Compton scattering, two-photon exchange
related physics, beyond the Standard Model physics, and polarized target experiments. The individual
contributions may be proposed for experimental Halls A, B and C, utilizing existing detection capabilities
or new dedicated detectors when necessary. These proposals should consider using <100 nA polarized positron
beam currents and <10 µA unpolarized positron beam currents, as well as usual polarized electron beam currents.
We wish to gather all contributions by May 18, 2018 in order to prepare for the June 4 submission deadline to
PAC46.We will organize a group video-conference in mid-April to discuss the process.
In the meantime, please let us know if you would be interested in developing a LOI within this context and
what kind of experiment it would concern. We wish to assemble as strong a group as possible and coordinate/share
the effort among interested persons to make this combined LOI as compelling as possible.
Kind regards,
Eric & Joe
PS: if not already done, please subscribe to the Positron Working Mailing list pwg at jlab.org which will be used
for communication about these efforts.
