Hello from ex-JLab Biker,

Along a popular section a rural bike route in North Alabama on the night of
28Apr14, several people were killed in their homes by a tornado. Limestone
County has 101 miles of roads that are marked as bike route. In comparison
to three of the surrounding counties most of the terrain is moderately flat.
>From our temporary residence, I have not pedaled into that area since the
twister.

On the night of the twisters across the state, my wife and I were driving
west along an interstate highway toward Birmingham. As we witnessed the
worsening weather conditions, the radio reported estimated storm arrival
times in terms of highway exits numbers. We checked into a hotel as the
sirens sounded. Emotionally, my wife was still recovering from a traffic
accident (not her fault) from 11 nights earlier, where no one was hurt. She
heard screams from the other vehicle as their pickup rolled over. Both
vehicles were obvious total losses. In short, hazardous driving conditions
made her nervous.
Thanks!

P.S.
Several years ago during the Southeastern Georgia drought, lightning sparked
bush fires forced a few bikers and myself to pedal along a highway with
nearby flames. A dry thunderstorm suddenly occurred between us and the
parking lot of our workplace. After hiding from the first storm inside a car
repair shop, we chose to complete the last few miles before sunset. As the
second storm cell approached from behind, the tailwind pushed us up the last
hill.
