Bob,
Not sure I know Steve, but his story is very scary! I hope that
he has a full recovery. Reminds me that we need to be very careful
with our biking activities.

Tom, here's a follow up with some
detail about Saturday's mishap.

I had just dropped my car off at a shop on 17 and was
going to take a ride out towards Yorktown. I was riding
down Goodwin Neck and preparing to turn left on to
Freedom Blvd. right before the turn in for the dump. I
saw a pickup truck pull up on Freedom at the stop sign
and prepare to turn left on to Goodwin, and I thought,
"this guy doesn't see me." This turned out to be true as
he began pulling out in to my path. I yelled out hoping
to get the guys attention, but it was too late, he
collided with my front wheel. I went down and don't
remember anything after that point until I woke up in
the ER. I remember getting wheeled in to the CAT scan,
being nauseous and my right foot hurting. The doc said I
had a concussion which was causing the nausea, and had a
spiral fracture in my foot.
Later that day I spoke with a witness who said I was
pinned under the truck and unresponsive. By the time the
EMTs arrived they had backed the truck up and got me off
the bike. I believe my foot was broken because of being
pinned between the bike and the road; the concussion was
obvious since the helmet was cracked.
I will be of the bike for at least 6 weeks and will need
a new ride. I assume the insurance of the guy who hit me
will pick up the tab.
So in the meantime I'm just hanging out taking pain meds
and catching up on sleep. Hope to see a foot specialist
on Monday - will keep you posted.

Cheers!
Steve
