Dear members of Run Group C,

as you probably have heard by now, we had a major incident yesterday which involved the power supply for the solenoid magnet (you can find more details in the logbook). Fortunately, to my knowledge nobody was hurt, and the damage was contained. I want to express my thanks and admiration for the members of the target group, shift personnel and our fearless run coordinator, Susan Schadmand, as well as the MCC crew chief and the NN firefighters for handling the situation as well as it could have been handled.

We had a first assessment meeting this morning including senior Hall B and JLab staff and magnet and DC power experts (thanks to everyone who came in on a Saturday morning). It is way too early to make any guesses as to how long it may take to recover from this incident, but people will work next week to get a clearer picture. We will need to find out whether there has been any damage to the solenoid (hopefully not!), and how extensive (and time-consuming) the necessary repairs for the power supply will be. I will keep you up-to-date as best as I can.

Meanwhile, all shifts are cancelled under further notice. We will not need to have a dedicated RC or target expert for the immediate future (I will take care of reporting at the relevant weekly meetings), but please keep the possibility in mind that we MIGHT be able to return to data taking this year. Obviously, there is also no need to have daily RC meetings right now; however, I will call occasional meetings once we have new information and/or need to discuss the path forward. Let me know if you would like us to meet on Monday, though.

Sorry for the bad news, and hoping for the best possible outcome - Sebastian
