Okay, I will mention in the morning that we will swap the target and request Radcon. Please let me know what time we will swap the target?

Yes, switch tomorrow to carbon will be ok.

Looking at the present whiteboard, it appears that the startup for Hall A is now scheduled for TUESDAY, 10/4. The next potential for PLANNED downtime is Monday, 10/10 (Hall A configuration change) or the following Tuesday (Pass change). Of course, with severe flooding and more nasty weather headed our way, we can’t be too sure if/when the beam will be down even sooner than Tuesday. However, if things remain as presently scheduled, my vote would be to
1) Change to a C target tomorrow, Monday (at a mutually agreeable time for the target group), and
2) Change to NH3 while also reversing the solenoid polarity on Tuesday.

So we need to tell RadCon that we need them both days. Assuming it’s o.k. with the target folks, we should shoot for the canonical 9:00 a.m. start (bring Hall to controlled access, have RadCon do their thing, then start target work). Does this sound o.k.?

According to PD, we don't know yet whether there will be maintenance next week or not. If the choice is between NH3/ND3, I think NH3 is better due to the accumulated statistics. There was an option about Carbon as well. But, in my opinion, NH3 is a better option. I hope we can decide before 7.45 AM tomorrow.

A target change on Monday during the day shift will be fine.

I'll assume it will be either NH3 or ND3, depending on the relative amount of data on the two. The RC should announce this at the morning meeting and let RadCon know that we'll need their support. Request a Controlled Access if there are others that want to perform work in the hall. Will there be an accelerator maintenance day later this week?

Dear Sebastian,

You are right, the first 4 hours were wonderful (Run 17118 collected 100 M events in less than 4 hours) but now the beam has been off since 9.15. So, we will run CH2 IN until tomorrow around noon and then flip to OUT and run OUT configuration until Monday morning. And yes, let's discuss about what target to switch to on Monday and whether we should flip the solenoid polarity.

Hi Zulkaida,

as far as I can tell, over the last 6 hours (since beam finally came back) we have taken 120 M events corresponding to 0.09 mC integrated charge. To get the desired quota on CH2, we would need nearly 8x as much - so it looks to me like tomorrow will be too early to switch targets. I would propose we keep running with CH2 until Monday morning. Meanwhile, we can use this thread to discuss what we should do on Monday - what target to switch to, and whether to flip the solenoid polarity.

More tomorrow - Sebastian

Dear All,

I am sorry to make a new email thread. But there is good news. We got the beam, and it has been stable. In 4 hours, we collected ~100 M events (Run 17118). If the beam keeps stable, We will have ~ 400 M events (200 M HWP In + 200 M HWP Out) by tomorrow morning. So, should we change the target tomorrow during the day shift? What kind of target? Let's have a discussion and decision here.

Best Regards,

Zulkaida Akbar
