First produced in 1932 by Macdonald Biscuits in Glasgow, Scotland, Penguins are based on a chocolate covered sandwich biscuit seen by the company's founder in Antwerp. Now manufactured by McVitie's, each wrapper has a joke printed on it (example: "why are penguins shops so busy? Because the fish fillet") and features penguins depicted in humourous situations or pastiches of famous works of art. Side note: a similar biscuit, the Tim Tam, is based on the Penguin and is popular in Australia.
