Thanks a lot and best regards, Silvia From silvia at jlab.org Mon Oct 13 09:43:58 2025 From: silvia at jlab.org (silvia) Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2025 15:43:58 +0200 Subject: [Rgc_analysis] "pass3" discussion Message-ID: Dear all, in my previous email I forgot to mention that in tomorrow's meeting we'll also have to discuss on the pass3 (which for RGC would be more of a pass2) perspectives, following the email (which I copy here below for your convenience) that Bryan sent out a few days ago. Please start thinking about the questions below as we'll have to get back with answers to the CCC and CalCom. The main thing coming to my mind at this stage justifying for a "quick" pass2 is that we could recook summer22 to have the same version of forward tracking of the rest of the data. But let's discuss it tomorrow. Thanks a lot and see you tomorrow. Best regards, Silvia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Run Group Coordinators (all other members for information) With many run groups having thoughts, and making progress towards, further rounds of calibrations and reconstruction, we are writing to provide context and outline the initial steps that the CCC will be taking in order to bring a more formalised structure and approach towards this process. Primarily the aim is to avoid premature recalibration requests that could result in repeated passes, and to ensure that CALCOM is fully supported in its decisions requiring prioritisation of recalibration and recooking. We need to be mindful that ongoing improvements in calibration and reconstruction are consolidated before initiating new recalibration requests whilst also recognising that this is an optimal time to focus on preparations and recalibrations given that CALCOM now has availability, with RG-L (FD) efforts concluding and no new CLAS12 running in 2026. During the November collaboration meeting, there will be a dedicated session in which run group coordinators will present the status and supporting case for future recalibration and recooking. These reports will then lead to subsequent discussions of physics-driven priorities and realistic timelines. The intended outcome is for the CCC to establish a broadly agreed priority ordering of recalibration/recooking. In order to make some initial progress, we are asking you to give thought towards the following questions, the answers to which should be presented during the meeting session: - What is your available person-power, for example: a chef and coordinator who will follow the process in its entirety; students or postdocs to analyse and assess the data quality and perform validation studies, are any new analyses expected to be triggered by the process? - On what preferred timescale do you envisage recalibration/recooking of your data to be of most use, for example to maintain a current standard between data sets or to wait for future additional improvements? On the part of the CCC/CALCOM, we will circulate a status document containing current and near-future improvements to calibrations and reconstruction including any remaining open questions or caveats. This document will be circulated on a timescale coinciding with the collaboration meetings and run group coordinators will be asked to address an additional question, during the discussion session, based on this: - Which of these improvements would your run group most benefit from to produce higher quality physics output based on the new data set? Efforts in producing well calibrated and processed data sets is in all of our best interests and must be coordinated within the collaboration as a whole. Your input will be critical to ensure the efficient use of resources and maintaining consistent standards across run groups. Many thanks and regards Bryan (on behalf of the CCC and CALCOM) From skuhn at odu.edu Tue Oct 21 09:01:08 2025 From: skuhn at odu.edu (Kuhn, Sebastian E.) We spent most of the time talking about what?s going to happen over the next few days (and weeks after that), given that Jefferson Lab is very likely to be in a suspended state (95% of employees furloughed) starting Friday, mandatory holiday tomorrow). It wasn?t entirely clear to any of the people present what all will be affected - but here are some ideas on how to prepare: 1) Ifarms may be down or at least inaccessible starting Friday. If you can download high-level data (Root files etc.) or other material that will help you to remain productive over the next weeks, it might be a good idea to do this. Keep also other JLab-hosted databases in mind, e.g., Overleaf, our Wiki, indico,... 2) Our standard Zoom link may stop working as it is supported by JLab. We can probably use some University Zoom as an alternative. 3) ? however, it isn?t even clear to me if JLab emails, and/or the JLab listserver will still work. It might be good to a) check that your subscription to rgc and rgc_analysis is through your home institution?s email address (or any other non-JLab email), at least in addition to your jlab.org email b) send a non-jlab email way to contact you to Silvia (sorry Silvia if you get spammed). (I am writing this from a non-JLab account). If anyone has other advice, please share. I am afraid that most if not all of our JLab collaborators will be unable to work and/or answer emails over the foreseeable future, until there is a new budget or continuing resolution passed.
