Dear all,
our test beam at CERN is over. We just dismounted our test apparatus and are ready to go back home.
We will make a report of our 2 weeks of work in our next RICH meeting. For the moment enjoy the slides that you find in attachment.
The rings are for pions and are not simulations! This is just a very preliminary analysis of our data.
The 2 rings drawn in slide 2 and 3 represent the expected indetermination mainly due to the unavailability of an appropriate finger detector for the event trigger definition and the determination of the particle trajectory at the level of ~ mm (our event was defined within more than 10x10 mm^2).
Also the proximity gap was too small, only 35-40 cm. Unfortunately we hadn't time to build a black box with the correct dimensions so we had to use the same we are using in the lab for the characterization of the MA-PMT with the laser.
We couldn't see the kaons in the experimental conditions we worked but these results are more than expected.
We learned a lot during this test, not only about the response of the H8500 and R8900 in experimental conditions (which was our goal) but also about the electronics we plan to use in the real detector, the aerogel with different refractive index (also how to handle it…I was able to destroy one tile without doing apparently nothing wrong!), and more…
More results will come once we will start to analyze our data.
