Dear SBS collaborators,

July 21 and 22 (Thursday and Friday before the PAC meeting) have been
tentatively chosen as the dates for the next collaboration meeting.
Please let me know if there are reasons these are not acceptable.

An amendment of the SBS collaboration charter has been suggested and
reviewed by the coordinating committee. The text of the proposed
amendment appears below. It would be added as a new paragraph at the end
of the section on Membership in the existing charter. If you have any
concerns about this suggested change, please express your concerns to one
or more members of the coordinating committee during the three week
comment period required before we can vote on the amendment.

If you presently have students involved in an SBS-related project,
please send me their names and a brief description of the project(s) they
are working on. We will try to keep an up-to-date list of these students
and activities. It would help me sort through the messages if you could
use "SBS student" as the subject line of your mail message.

The coordinating committee would also like to point out that this may be
a reasonable time to be taking on students for SBS projects (or, at least
to be seeking funding for such students) especially if they will have to
complete course work and/or qualifying exams before digging into research
activities full time.

  	Best,
  	Brian

Proposed amendment:
Graduate students on SBS-experiments are automatically given
membership once the student and his/her advisor have made an
agreement, approved by a majority of the Coordinating Committee, on
the student's contribution to the SBS program. If the student wishes
to remain a member upon graduating, he/she must qualify under the
usual membership rules described above.
