Hi all,
Last evening Jack found the short on the magnet, which is located in the saddle coil (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3921566). He has a proposed solution, which requires jacking up the coil and inserting G10 shims under it. This work requires careful planning with Jessie and Jack's teams and will likely take a 2--3 days to execute the full plan, which will occur on day shifts. The tentative plan now is for Hall A to take beam under the condition of operating only the BigBite magnet on Swing and Owl shifts, with the SBS magnet locked out.
>From the Ops standpoint there's work to be done regarding control of the SBS and corrector magnets: The corrector magnet + FSD checkout is 90% complete; Jerry Kowal's team (from SSG) is assessing whether they need to revisit one of those magnets based on the studies performed towards the end of last week. Additionally, once the SBS magnet is fully functional, they will need to verify their read back and scaling of the current in that magnet; he estimates that would take about an hour of work.
Physics Division has decided to issue the Run Certificate if Ops approves a procedure acceptable to machine control for running with the SBS off, and the readiness of the exit beam line FSD system. This will be discussed at a meeting for this purpose at 2 pm today. This would allow us to tune the beam down to the dump with the BigBite magnet off, and then work on our BigBite optics program thereafter with BigBite powered on.
The plan for today in the Hall is as follows:
* Jessie is working to complete his checklist so we can transition to Controlled Access. This should be completed in about an hour (10:30 am ET).
* Jack, Jessie, Robin, and Whit will prepare the work plan for the SBS magnet. This will be posted as a HAList.
* Jack will work with Holly on the GEM gas system
* On Swing and Owl shifts: Accelerator to hopefully deliver beam to the Hall
Best,
David (Hall A RC)
