We had a busy Swing and Owl shift working on establishing first beam into the hall. The details are below:

Goals for Tue Swing and Wed Owl
- Beam steering to the dump
- Dump ion chamber calibration (empty target scans) for beam currents up to 10 uA
- Ion chamber calibration on Optics 5-foil
- Beam centering on Carbon hole (2-mm)
- Raster and BPM calibrations
- Turn on GEMs and start detector commissioning/optics program

Summary of Swing and Owl

We got beam into the hall from around 20:00, and Ops worked on
steering the beam to the dump from 20:30. Harp scans
were performed at 21:40 (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3923094);
initially the raster was in an indeterminate state and was cycled
prior to this. From about 22:15 Ops performed empty target scans
to calibrate the dump ion chambers. A lot of optics work deep into
Owl shift to reduce the beam size, which was about 100 um x 600 um
after the last harp scans at 05:00 (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3923330).
The desired size is 200--300 um for our program; Ops and Optics teams
will continue the effort to optimize the beam size when beam
comes back on Swing shift.

In the counting house, we found that the sbsvme29 crate was crashing the CODA runs, and was taken out of the configuration.
Looking at spot++ (on the LHRS data), we see that one of our raster signals (upstream Y) is effectively missing (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3923220).
Paul and I have ideas on what might be going wrong here; additionally, the EPICS raster data looks good (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3923223),
so we think it's on our end, and *not* a problem with the raster. Paul and I will investigate on Day shift.

Plan for Day Shift

We scheduled a rad survey this morning (~07:30) so we can transition to controlled
access for the day shift (until 16:00). The BigBite magnet will be LOTO'd
by Jessie for the shift. The major activities are:

- SBS magnet testing (Jack)
- GEM gas setup (Jack, Zeke or other GEM expert)
- GRINCH gas setup (Todd, Bradley)
- LHRS beam signal investigations (Paul and DF)
- HCAL hardware checks (Scott or Sebastian)

As usual, we have 10 keys for accesses so we'll manage the work accordingly. SBS magnet testing is the priority.

Plan for Swing and Owl

- Close up the Hall at 16:00
- Resume our program from last night where Ops/Optics teams will optimize the beam delivery for us
and we'll get into our beam centering as listed at the top of this entry.
