Dear Target Operators,
As you may know, the target cell 'Fringe’ has been performing very well recently (as high as 52.7% in beam!). In order to maximize our productivity, I'd like for you to make a careful note of a couple of target related parameters while on shift. Sometimes, due to expected (planned activities in the hall etc..) or unexpected events (short escorted accesses, magnet or corrector trips etc..), the SBS and BB magnets are turned off before making an access into the hall as part of the procedure. When that happens:
* Please make sure that the Helmholtz coil fields are rotated according to the correct SBS/BB magnets configuration ex. ON/ON or OFF/OFF etc.
* Make no NMR measurements if the magnets are turned OFF unless requested by the target group.
* In case you have been asked to make one, close and open the NMR_GEN.vi gui and make sure that this gui has the correct SBS/BB magnet ON/ON, OFF/OFF setting.
* Of course, all NMR measurements should be made at the pick up coil position.
* After the magnets are turned ON, make sure that the Helmholtz coil fields are rotated to the correct SBS/BB magnets ON/ON setting. And again, close and open the NMR_GEN.vi gui in case you need to make a measurement after turning the magnets ON before beginning production running and make sure that the magnet settings in the gui match with the status of the magnets in the hall .
Any NMR measurement made with a mismatch between the magnet settings in the NMR_GEN.vi gui and the magnets in the hall would wipe out the polarization and it would take many hours to recover from that. The above mentioned instructions are also on page 45 of the TO training slides: https://sbs.jlab.org/cgi-bin/DocDB/private/ShowDocument?docid=330. Please don't hesitate to contact anyone from the target group in case of any questions you may have while on shift.
Best regards,
Arun Tadepalli
(On behalf of the polhe3 target group)
