Hello all,

I have been asked by Bob Michaels to remind everyone that it is best practice for those of us involved in data analysis to not tamper with SBS raw data files in any way. Doing anything to the raw data files other than reading them using
our Hall A analyzer software simply should not be done under any circumstances, period. Let Bob’s automated scripts manage the copying of the raw data out to tape, in order to avoid accidental loss of data!

For more details, I refer you to the following logbook entry:

https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3921343

For further reading, please familiarize yourself with and follow Jefferson Lab’s and Hall A’s applicable data management policies:

https://scicomp.jlab.org/DataManagementPlan.pdf

The bottom line is: Users should NEVER modify the raw data files in any way. Don’t copy, rename, move, remove, or otherwise touch these raw data files! I reiterate: let Bob’s automatic scripts manage the copying of the raw data to long-term
tape storage. Your interaction with these files should be read-only; i.e., processing them using the analyzer.
