SHMS-HMS Users Group Newsletter #3

With only one final experiment remaining in Hall C before the 12 GeV
upgrade, now is a good time to start preparing for the advent of SHMS
and to consider which experiments are most suitable for
commissioning the upgraded hall.

Suitable candidates for commissioning experiments are those which use
the standard equipment in the upgraded hall and those which do not
require the highest limits of the equipment.

PAC35

Starting from PAC35, all proposed experiments will be subjected to a
rating process to set the scientific priorities for the 12 GeV
program. A set of science categories has been established and at PAC35
and subsequent PACs, proposals which fall into one (or more)
categories will be evaluated at that PAC. Complete details can be
found in a memo emailed to all staff and users at JLab by Larry
Cardman.  A reminder that the next Program Advisory Committee meeting,
PAC35, will take place at JLab during the week of 25th January
2010. The final deadline for proposal submission is the close of
business on Monday 14th December 2009.

Hall C PAC 35 proposals:

If you are preparing a Hall C based proposal for PAC 35, please let Steve
Wood (saw at jlab.org) know of your preparations.  Please indicate if the
information provided should be kept confidential and if you would like to
present the proposal (dry-run) at the January Hall C meeting.

Analysis Software for 12 GeV

Currently there is no analysis code which includes the SHMS. We are
planning to update the existing engine, as well as creating a new
C++/Root based analysis code, modelled on the Hall A Analyser. This
will require a significant amount of effort, and should begin as
soon as possible. Interested parties should contact John Arrington
(johna at anl.gov) for more information.
