SHMS Software Working Group
---------------------------
Gabriel Niculescu has been working on documenting the details of the code 
in preparation for updating the existing engine and beginning work on a 
C++/Root based code.  There will be an informal meeting at JLab to discuss 
plans, manpower, and timelines for software development during the JLab 
User's Meeting.  People interested in attending should contact Gabriel 
<gabriel at jlab.org> or John Arrington <johna at anl.gov>.  We will circulate a 
summary of the discussions after the meeting.


SHMS Detectors Working Group
----------------------------
A new research building has recently been completed on Hampton University 
campus, and will provide the lab space required for construction of the 
SHMS wire chambers. This lab is currently being set up for the wire 
chamber construction.

The frame for the preshower counter has been sent out to a vendor. The 
frame for the shower counter has been designed but will be manufactured at 
a later date, as the necessary funds become available.

An NSF-MRI grant request was recently submitted by CUA with co-PIs from 
USC, MSU, and FIU for the development of a kaon aerogel detector for JLab. 
The detector design is optimized to cover the full range of experiments in 
Hall C requiring kaon identification. The decision for this grant 
competition is expected later this fall.

NSERC has provided funds of C$125k over two years for construction of the 
Heavy Gas Cerenkov at University of Regina.

UVa have begun to characterize PMTs for the Noble Gas Cerenkov, and are 
searching for vendors to provide the PMT wavelength shifter coating.

Howard Fenker and Steve Wood for use in several upcoming 12 GeV project 
meetings.

SHMS Project Update
-------------------
Considerable progress has been made with the SHMS magnets and 
infrastructure.
* Horizontal Bender: contract with NSCL awaiting approval from DOE Site 
Office.
* Q1: Engineer visited vendor in England (Scientific Magnetics Inc.,
Oxford spinoff).
* Q2,3,D: reorganizing as new smaller contracts.  Vendor response to
dipole solicitation now under review. Quadrupole bids due in mid-June.
* Lehman Review: generally went well, with any major concerns relating
to magnet systems in other halls. Feedback was along the lines of,
"don't be surprised if magnets cost more than expected".
* Contract to extrude copper to house superconductor substrate in 
progress.
* Reservoirs for magnet cryofluid due to arrive in January, 2011.  First 
one (for Hall D, common design) due this month.
* Magnet controls components arriving and beginning to be evaluated on
site.
* Boron-loaded concrete: will be poured stucco (7" thick) instead of
5cm boron layer after concrete.

---------------
Annual Users Meeting @ JLab - June 7-9.
Workshop on Hall C Polarized Targets for the 12GeV Era (Joint Meeting
with Hall A) @ JLab - June 17-18
Summer Hall C Workshop - TBA, but likely late August or early September.
This workshop is expected to be 12 GeV centric.
Detector Working Group Meeting - TBA, but likely just prior to the Summer
Workshop.
