Subject: [EXTERNAL] Weekly PPU update

This week we selected 14 FY21 proposed milestones from our project plan for our sponsor’s use in assessing PPU progress towards PEMP notable outcomes. Also, we are reassessing storage needs in preparation of a change request to add this scope to the project.

Five superconducting cavities are now at JLab: one has been successfully qualified, another was reprocessed and will be retested next week, and a third is scheduled for initial testing late this week. The medium beta spare cryomodule was run in the test cave for a baseline measurement prior to plasma processing, which will be performed to increase the gradient in the existing superconducting RF installation as part of PPU. In the RF area we have been working closely with the vendor for the new RF loads and circulators and expect the delivery of first articles the first week of November. The low level RF team is moving beyond the design stage and is preparing for a procurement readiness review next week. The Ring team is scrubbing the beam power limiting system schedule and the controls team is looking to install a rack in the klystron gallery this winter outage. The target team held a preliminary design review for the Molecular sieve skid (part of the mercury off gas treatment upgrade) and is on track for a final design review in December. In the conventional facilities area, the new pump room ceiling hangers, lighting and louvers are installed, and work is being prepared for finishing the rooftop and rollup door. Equipment is also arriving in the klystron gallery for installation.

Thanks to everyone – jg
