Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU weekly update

This week in the SCL area, JLab qualified a 4th cavity and is positioned to begin the 4th cryomodule string assembly. This represents half of the required qualified jacked cavities, including the spare cryomodule. On the first cryomodule, welding of the piping for the end cans is ongoing. In the RF area, the 3 MW klystron vendor is still testing the prototype, with an equivalent performance of 2.5 MW achieved to date. The new RF circulator vendor we switched to this summer has material on site for the first 8 circulators and should be able to deliver on time to support the power ramp-up. In the Ring area, equipment for the ring injection dump imaging upgrade was shipped. However, the new phosphor coated dump window still has a vacuum leak and use of the spare window (which was also purchased) is being considered. In the target area, there is progress on the ortho-para convertor assembly at the vendor which is due next spring, and preparations are ongoing for the Dec. 9 final design review of the gas recirculation/molecular sieve bed system. Installation activities in the tunnel during the outage continue, with cable terminations on the beamline interface blocks to support the first new cryomodules. Pumps are installed on the new concrete damper pads in the upgraded KL-04 linac cooling system and the recently installed KL-06 cooling system for the upgraded superconducting region is being run in a test mode.

Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all the progress this year, it really has been another amazing year. I’m not sure there will be a weekly update next week, so best wishes to you and your families over the Thanksgiving holidays – jg
