<span style="color:black">This week we worked with our Federal Project Director James Barnard on final preparations for next week’s scheduled ESAAB meeting for PPU CD-2/3 approval. Thanks to all for the efforts that have provided a basis for getting to this
point. A number of final design reviews have recently occurred over the past few weeks, bringing the cost weighted percent of equipment at final design status to 98%, up from 92% at the July IPR.

<span style="color:black">In the SRF area, we had good news at the end of the week. The first cavity received at JLab from the vendor was retested and performed well. It had previously exhibited excessive radiation at low fields on initial receipt, but re-processing
at JLab worked well and lessons learned with this cavity will be applied to the remainder. Two more cavities are on site at JLab and 2 additional cavities are in transit to JLab. This initial cavity receipt at JLab is a big milestone, especially under the
challenging COVID conditions. The dummy cryomodule was also received at JLab, and will be used for shipping tests to ensure the safe transport of completed cryomodules from JLab to SNS. The RF team participated in a final design review with the vendor supplying
the transmitters for the new SCL systems. In the Ring area, we are preparing a statement of work with FNAL for assistance with overseeing the fabrication of the new chicane magnets, and a test article for the new injection dump imaging system is being fabricated,
both of which are indications of moving beyond the design stage. In the Target area the thermal cycle testing was completed for a sapphire window (at cryogenic temperatures) component of the ortho-para laser diagnostic. Work is progressing on schedule for
the components of the PPU test target 1 fabrication, which will incorporate most of the PPU target features including the tapered from body and swirl bubblers. In the klystron gallery construction area, deionized water headers and piping distribution are in
fabrication at the sub-contractor’s offsite shop, louvers and exterior door frames for the new pump room build-out were delivered and installed, and we received a detailed schedule from the sub-contractor on remaining activities for the klystron gallery buildout.
We will use this schedule to more closely work with the contractor to track progress and monitor upcoming activities to ensure completion on schedule.

<span style="color:black">Next week is the ESAAB CD-2/3 approval meeting we’ve been aiming towards for much of FY20. We are seeing a transition from summer to fall, and PPU will hopefully soon experience a transition from design to execution. While we cannot
take anything for granted, I do sense that the experience we have gained with LLP execution positions us well for the next project phase.
