The primary PPU activity this week was execution of a successful director’s review in preparation for an upcoming DOE status review in September. The out brief was quite positive, and the team is in good shape for the upcoming DOE review.
In the superconducting RF area the fourth cryomodule underwent a successful cold test at our partner JLab, and is on track for shipping to SNS next week. In the RF area, the first article upgraded 3 MW klystron for the copper linac has been placed on the test
stand at SNS. In the Ring area magnet core assemblies for the 2 of the 3 injection magnets have been received by our partner FNAL. Also, FNAL has the initial magnet winding assembly in the final potting chamber, ready for epoxy setting next week. In the target
area the proton beam window changeout is ongoing (this is needed to implement the new PPU imaging system to see the dump waste beam for the first time). Other installation progress include placement of all 12 new klystrons needed for the November power ramp-up
and water testing in the first 6, and electrical energizing the first RF transmitter in preparation for testing.
