Hi Zhihong:

These are exactly what I was looking for. For the 1-1 connector, please send me the contact information.

For the fusion machine, I will contact John Hansknecht (with copies to you and Zhiwen) to see if we can get the discussion started.

Thanks,

Xiaochao

Subject: [Solid_ec] Fiber Connectors and Fusion

Dear all,

I talked with several experts in the detector group this morning about
my Scintillating Fiber Tracker project, and we happened to discuss about
the connector between the fibers. There are two useful things I learned
from them and I would like to share with you:

1, Connector: The 1-on-1 connectors will be much cheaper if we buy from
a Chinese manufacturer. It costs less than $0.70 for each channel and
the company can provide free samples for us for testing. I have the
contact information if you want to talk with this company.

2, Fusion: If we care about the light-lose, fusion will be a much better
choice (0.6db loss compared with >3db loss when using the connector).
The JLab Laser Injector Group actually just bought a second-handed
portable laser fuser for around $15k. We might want to bring some fibers
and use this fuser to test the performance. The guy who holds this
machine is John Hansknecht.
