[Solid_ec] EIC R&D proposal on EMCal

Dear SoLID ECal collaborators:

I plan to submit an EIC detector R&D proposal. Attached please find a (modified) first draft. The main idea is to test the quality of 3D-printed scintillators. And if it works then eventually I'd like to see if we can print scintillators for EM shashlyk-type calorimeter construction. If the results from the first year look promising then I will request for funds for prototyping in the second year. 

As most of you know that the EIC detector R&D fund has been around for a few years. Existing topics can be grouped into two "consortiums", one on calorimeter and one on tracking. For example Nilanga has been a major player in the tracking consortium for a couple of years. 

I already had a discussion with the calorimeter consortium's lead PIs (Craig Woody and Huanzhong Huang) two weeks ago and the feedback was encouraging. I was suggested to:

1) make the scale and the budget of the first year small. Thus I will only focusing on the 3D-printed scintillators, as mentioned above. The topic may look narrow but I feel this is a new technology and can fit well into the EIC R&D.

2) make the collaboration stronger.

Please take a quick look and let me know, within this week, if you are interested in joining the proposal. (Or let me know without reading, nobody will know :).  If you would like to join please send along your affiliation as well. Please also feel free to send me names of your postdoc(s) and students as well, if applicable.  The deadline for submission is June 15.

And of course comments and suggestions on the content of the proposal are more than welcome.  I will work continuously on this draft until the submission deadline.
