We need to keep in mind that at some point we will need to swap all clear fibers, due to radiation and other damages. The WLS fibers however will be permanent with the modules. Fiber fusing is less realistic in that scenario.</div>

I think we could explore the light guide options. The 1mm MC-> 0.5mm SC bundle was a bit confusing and the light loss is better than I had expected: from cladding alone (angle of internal reflection), the loss should already by 40% (5% vs. 3%), and there should
certainly be area mismatch that adds to the 40%. Perhaps the real loss of the bundle option is more than 40%? In any case, light guide has always been an option that I had not had a chance to explore.<br>
