Hi,

As you may recall, we submitted a proposal to the CFI Innovation Fund
competition last July, for the funding of the SoLID HGC pressure vessel.
A copy of that proposal is available on the SoLID DocDB at:
https://solid.jlab.org/cgi-bin/private/ShowDocument?docid=462

I'm pleased to let you know that the CFI application was favorably reviewed (see
attached committee reports) and recommended for full funding at C$509.5k. We
are not allowed to make any public announcement until after CFI has done their
official national announcement on the Innovation Fund competition results, but
the good news may be shared with collaborators, partner organizations, etc.
After Ottawa has made their announcement, we can share the news with the broader
community, if you want.

The way the program works is that we submitted an application to CFI for 50% of
the funding from the Canadian government, and then we ask the province
(Saskatchewan) to match this request. That process could take up to 6 months,
but could result in total funding of C$1.019M for the HGC vessel.

After that, presumably there would be a discussion between CFI and DOE on when
to release the funds. You may recall that CFI funded MOLLER electronics before
DOE announced CD1, and the funds were recently released to the University of
Manitoba, and the initial CFI funds for the nEXO neutrinoless double beta decay
experiment were handled similarly.

This is definitely good news for SoLID, and hopefully indicates an eventual
positive decision by DOE.

Regards, Garth
