<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">Two factors are responsible for this. One, due to raster, the beam was</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">hitting the solid rack which holds the optics foils. Second, distance</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">between O-ring and origin of the radiation source was short. We were</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">running PREx at 50 uAm but I don't remember what current did we use for</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">the optics run.</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">On the other hand in SIDIS configuration of SoLID the target is liquid</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">Helium, beam current is about 10 uAm and distance of O-ring of HGC from</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">target is about 2 to 3 meter so I think there is no danger of melting of</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">O-ring by the radiation from the target.</font></font>

<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">much radiation O-rings can take. There have always been O-rings on the</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">target chamber but they were at much larger angle; they go around the</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">windows.</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">Regarding the PREX experience, it was a little more complicated than</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">what you wrote. It is true there was an accident early in the run</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">where a rastered high-current beam was put on the optics target, which</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">has small foils. Some beam scraped on the heavy aluminum frame of</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">the target. But that was a brief incident. It probably weakened</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">the O-right, though. There was a much longer exposure to radiation</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">just due to the target, and there was some evidence that hurt us,</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">too. Remember, we went through 2 or 3 of those O-rings during</font></font>
<font face="Carlito, sans-serif"><font style="font-size:10pt" size="2">the run (cannot remember how many but at least 2 and probably 3).</font></font>
