[Solid_software] /work/halla/solid move

Hi folks,

the Computer Center is ready to move the /work/halla/solid area to the
new /work file server, which offers more space and speed. They need
about 3 hours to do the move. During this time, no files should be open
on /work/halla/solid. Specifically, this means that no farm jobs should
be running or be scheduled that use any files from that disk area.

When would be a good time to do this move? What is the status of SoLID
farm jobs? How about Wednesday morning from 8-11am?

A few extra precautions you can take to avoid data loss in the unlikely
case of something going wrong:

1) Make a personal backup of all hard-to-replace self-developed source
code, scripts, database files, etc. that you store under /work/halla/solid.

2) Ensure that you do NOT access the SoLID work area via the
/lustre/expphy/work/halla/solid path. Always use /work/halla/solid or
/w/work/halla/solid, NEVER the /lustre path. If you use /lustre, your
code might continue to work for a while, but you could lose all changes
you make after the move. Be sure that no /lustre paths are hardcoded
inside scripts, source code, databases etc.

If I don't hear objections soon, I will tell the Computer Center that
Wednesday 8-11am is OK.

Ole
