One comment on the following:
Another equally urgent task for the tracking reconstruction is the GEM clustering part. First of all, the current GEM clustering algorithm will not work at the transition region between segmented strips and unsegmented ones. This part of the GEM digitization is finished by Dr. Richard Holmes, but we cannot test how it can improve the tracking reconstruction without having the GEM clustering part updated accordingly
This I think is not quite true. I believe the existing clustering, or a fairly simple revision, should work adequately if all strips are segmented. It will not correctly handle clusters that bridge the segmentation line, nor clusters at the end of the inner segments or the start of the outer segments, but the first should be a fairly rare case and the second shouldn’t occur at all due to the dead areas along the GEM edges. Nor is having all strips segmented realistic, but it does represent a best case scenario for studying the effects of segmentation. One can at least set some bounds on how much improvement we get.
