Hi all,
FYI, the EIC Software Infrastructure Review took place Aug 22-23:
https://indico.bnl.gov/event/16676/
One line in the closeout slides piqued my interest: "Heavy use of
community software exposes the collaboration to risk
from support loss". So, in the eyes of the reviewers, developing your
own is a safer choice? Despite the higher development cost? Seems to be
the prevailing attitude in our field since no one (not even the HEP
Software Foundation) appears willing or able (due to lack of funding, I
guess) to step up and take responsibility for supporting long-lived
community software, like it is the case in other fields, e.g. radio
astronomy.
