Hi All,
Last week we completed testing the MOLLER MPS.
It was a great success.
We ran uninterrupted at 3000A at ~23V producing ~70kW of heat and everything was very stable.
We also ran the MPS to full output current of 3900A. This produced ~125kW of joule heating in the load. This caused the LCW supply temperature to start to rise.
I've talked to Carroll Jones and he suspected that the tower side of the heat exchanger could be dirty and then checked its pressure drop. He found it to be 28.5 psid which is higher than it should be.
It would be a good idea for Facilities to clean this heat exchanger. Once that is done we will want to do another high power run and get a baseline for the actual heat load that the system can handle. We plan on running the MPS again at high or even full load to determine the maximum power that can be handled so we can make future plans for running and doing field mapping of the assembled MOLLER magnets late this year or early 2025.
I think the process of cleaning the heat exchanger will take less than a shift and should be scheduled in the next couple of weeks.
Facilities will coordinate with everyone through this list to see when it is best to do the work.
For MOLLER the best time is this or next week but we could delay it a few weeks with no issue.
Thanks All
Dave
