Title: The role of final-state interactions in deep-inelastic scattering from a deuteron target

Abstract:

We outline a model that, based on the diffractive nature of the effective hadron–nucleon interaction, uses the generalized eikonal approximation to model final-state interactions (FSIs) in deep-inelastic scattering from a deuteron target. We concentrate on contributions in the resonance region and take into account the proton-neutron component of the deuteron. We compare calculations for tagged spectator DIS with JLab data at high (Deeps) and low (Bonus) spectator momenta and discuss the extracted rescattering parameters from our model. We show how tagged spectator measurements can be used to perform a model independent extraction of free neutron structure functions. Next, we discuss the application of the model to inclusive DIS and show calculations for unpolarized an polarized observables to illustrate the impact of FSIs.
