Dear all,

Here is a reminder for seminars next week:

Theory seminar:
Monday, August 26, 1:00PM, Room L102
Ivan Vitev (Los Alamos),``Effective field theories in reactions with nuclei: from jets to quarkonia''
Abstract:
In this talk I will show how modern effective theories of QCD can be generalized to include parton interactions in nuclear matter. This allows us to develop a first principles framework for precise theoretical calculations in reactions with nuclei, such as e+A, p+A, and A+A in current and future collider facilities. As a first example I will discuss Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and the derivation of a full set of in-medium branching processes to any order in the opacity of nuclear matter. Recent application to b-jet production and jet charge modification in heavy ion collisions will be shown. As a second example I will discuss Non-relativistic Quantum Chromodynamics (NRQCD). NRQCD with Glauber gluons can provide for the first time a universal microscopic description of the interaction of heavy quarkonia with a strongly interacting medium, consistently applicable to a range of phases, such as cold nuclear matter, dense hadron gas, and quark-gluon plasma. Its connection to quarkonium phenomenology in heavy ion reactions will be elucidated.

Theory seminar:
Wednesday, August 28, 1:00PM, Room L102
Alexander Rothkopf (University of Stavanger), "Towards in-medium heavy quarkonium dynamics from first principles"
Abstract:
In this talk I report recent results on the in-medium properties of heavy quarkonium from a combination of lattice QCD and the effective field theories NRQCD as well as pNRQCD. This includes the first robust determination of in-medium mass shifts consistent among the different EFT approaches [1], as well as the in-medium potential on realistic lattices [2]. In addition, our latest results on the open-quantum-systems approach to heavy-quarkonium real-time dynamics will presented [3].
