Dear all,
Here is a reminder for seminars next week:
Theory seminar:
Monday, July 1, 1:00PM, Room L102
Zhongbo Kang (UCLA), "Novel opportunities for transverse momentum dependent distributions"
Abstract:
The transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs) have received great attention from both theoretical and experimental communities in recent years. These TMD PDFs and FFs, or in short called TMDs, provide new information on hadron structure: the three-dimensional imaging of hadrons in both longitudinal and transverse momentum space. For a long time, we rely on three standard processes to extract these TMDs. They are semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, Drell-Yan process, and hadron pair production in e+e- annihilation. In this talk, I will outline novel opportunities for the TMDs through QCD jets. I will demonstrate how single inclusive jets and/or boson-tagged jets can be used to explore TMD PDFs and TMD FFs, and what the associated QCD frameworks are for these observables. I will mention why they are very relevant in the era of electron ion collider.
Cake seminar:
Wednesday, July 3, 1:00PM, Room L102
Carlota Andres (Jefferson Lab), "JAM19: strange quark suppression from a simultaneous global fit of collinear PDFs and FFs’’
Abstract:
Traditionally, global QCD analyses of PDFs and fragmentation functions (FFs) have been performed in completely independent studies. The JAM Collaboration, in contrast, has carried out the first simultaneous extraction of unpolarized PDFs and FFs from a wide range of processes using Monte Carlo methods. Inclusion of the semi-inclusive DIS data reveals a strong suppression of the strange quark distribution at parton momentum fractions x > 0.01, in contrast to ATLAS observation of enhanced strangeness in W and Z production at the LHC. In this talk I will summarize the methodology and the results of this global analysis.
