Abstract:
I will discuss transverse momentum measurements using jets, showing that a recoil-free jet definition is essential to make precise predictions, and significantly simplifies the theoretical framework. Specifically, I will present the factorization theorem for the transverse momentum of jets in deep-inelastic scattering, and show numerical results at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic order. This is a promising probe of proton structure, as its calculation does not involve nonperturbative fragmentation functions. I will also discuss the angular decorrelation of a vector boson and jet, which receives contributions from linearly-polarized gluons transverse momentum distributions in the initial and final state. Furthermore, these observables are only minimally modified for jet reconstruction based only on charged particle tracks, offering vastly superior angular resolution.
