Pieter Taels, École Polytechnique (France), "Gluon TMDs in electroproduction"

Abstract

Transverse momentum dependent quark or gluon distribution functions (TMDs) parameterize the three-dimensional momentum structure of a hadron, with inclusion of the spin degrees of freedom. This seminar will be devoted to gluon TMDs, which from the experimental point of view are almost completely unknown. I will discuss two recent studies where processes are investigated that are particularly sensitive to the gluon content of a proton or nucleus: jet production in deep-inelastic scattering at low-x, and electroproduction of heavy quarkonium states such as the J/\psi meson. Both processes could be of interest for the future EIC.
