Hello All,

Today, March 1st at 1:00 PM (EST), Christian Weiss of JLab will give our next cake seminar in room L102 of CEBAF Center.

Please see below for the title and abstract.

Cake Seminar
Wednesday, March 1st at 1:00 PM

Christian Weiss (JLab)
will discuss "Light-ion physics at EIC: Low-energy nuclear structure in high-energy processes"

Abstract:
The EIC will enable a unique physics program of high-energy scattering on light ions (A = 2, 3, …), exploring the
spin structure of the neutron, the QCD origin of nuclear interactions, and coherent multi-nucleon phenomena.
Detection of the nuclear breakup in the final state (spectator tagging, nuclear fragments) will provide information
on the nuclear configurations during the high-energy process and offer new perspectives for theoretical analysis.
Such measurements require substantial theoretical input in low-energy nuclear structure for describing the initial
and final states. The seminar gives an overview of present efforts and future plans in this program. This includes:
(i) Theoretical methods: Separation of nuclear and nucleon structure, light-front formulation of nuclear structure.
(ii) Applications: Deuteron DIS with spectator tagging, polarization observables, EIC simulations. (iii) Future extensions:
A > 2, nuclear EFT methods. Emphasis will be placed on the synergies with low-energy nuclear structure theory
and the JLab 12 GeV experimental program.
