Cake Seminar: Wednesday, Sep 25th, 2024 at 1pm EDT
Speaker: Andrea Simonelli (JLab and ODU)
Title: Off light-cone effects in hadronic processes
Abstract: The underlying spacetime structure of the hadronic processes is at the heart of their factorization properties. In particular, many popular cases concern kinematic configurations in which the relevant physics develops around two opposite light-cone directions. In such scenarios, any deviation from the light-cone is commonly and implicitly assumed to be irrelevant for leading power factorization theorems .
Although this hypothesis often turns out to be correct, detecting and tracking the potential off light-cone effects not only provides a more solid and formal ground for the factorization itself, but it also offers a new and interesting perspective on the similarities between different, and only apparently unrelated, hadronic processes.
In this regard, I will emphasize how universal functions such as the Collins-Soper (CS) kernel play a crucial role in bridging different fields and communities. The cases of Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) in the limit of large Bjorken $x$ and $e^+e^-$ annihilation in the dijet region will be discussed thoroughly as relevant examples.
See you soon.
Best regards,
Caroline, Joe, Zheng-Yang & Gloria
