Theory Seminar: February 10th, 1pm EST (hybrid)
Speaker: Marc Illa (Washington U. Seattle)
Title: Quantum computing for nuclear physics
Abstract: While universal quantum computation is essential in the quest to simulate Standard Model physics with high precision, the near-term devices that define the NISQ era, without high-fidelity qubits and error correction, still hold the possibility to provide results where classical simulations struggle, in particular studying real time dynamics. In this talk, I will present recent results in the path towards performing such relevant simulations for nuclear physics, including how to design simulations at scale (involving more than 100 qubits) making use of the symmetries and hierarchy of length scales of confining theories, or exploring the utility of recent multi-level quantum systems, known as qudits, for simulating complex many-body systems.
See you all tomorrow!
Best regards,
Joe, Zheng-Yang, and Gloria
