Greetings everyone,
Tomorrow, on Monday, March 24th, 2025 at 1:00PM EDT, we will have a hybrid seminar given by Sebastian Dawid of University of Washington, in person in CC F224-225 and on the following Zoom link:
https://jlab-org.zoomgov.com/j/1600844843?pwd=ilbh3gQPlqq3EHPuvf1Rcvt7nOQqia.1
Please see below for the title and abstract.
Theory Seminar: March 24th, 1pm EDT (hybrid)
Speaker: Sebastian Dawid (Washington U. Seattle)
Title: Revisiting Coulomb confinement in the Hamiltonian limit
Abstract: The Gribov–Zwanziger scenario attributes the phenomenon of confinement to the instantaneous interaction term in the QCD Hamiltonian in the Coulomb gauge. For a static quark-antiquark pair, it leads to a potential energy that increases linearly with the distance between them. Lattice studies of the SU(2) Yang–Mills theory determined the corresponding string tension to be about three times larger than the traditional Wilson loop string tension. During the talk I will argue that the value established in the literature is artificially inflated. I will explain the lattice definition of the instantaneous potential, pinpoint the source of the string tension’s enhancement, and show how its improved determination in the SU(2) lattice gauge theory leads to a value much closer to the physical one.
See you on Monday!
Kind regards,
Joe, Zheng-Yang, Gloria and Adam
