Dear all,

Today, Wednesday, May 7th, 2025 at 1pm EDT, we will have a cake seminar given by Adam Freese of JLab in CC L102 and on the following Zoom link:

Attendance in person is highly encouraged. Please see below for the title and abstract.

Cake Seminar: Wednesday, May 7th, 2025 at 1pm EDT

Speaker: Adam Freese (JLab)

Title: Galilei covariance and non-relativistic fermions

Abstract: Non-relativistic quantum systems have recently become testing grounds for imaginative ideas about mechanical properties of hadrons. Their continued use, however, demands that the symmetries of non-relativistic mechanics—namely Galilei covariance—be taken seriously. I obtain Galilei-covariant expressions for matrix elements of the energy-momentum tensor in terms of mechanical form factors for spin-zero and spin-half states, exploiting the fact that the Galilei group is embedded in a (4+1)-dimensional Lorentz group. Most of this talk will be about the derivation of Galilei-covariant spinors in particular, which transform under the defining representation of the pseudo-unitary quaternion group U(1,1,H), which is isomorphic to the pseudo-unitary complex sympletic group USp(2,2,C).

See you later.

Best regards,
Joe, Zheng-Yang, Gloria & Adam
