Hey everyone,
This one I mean to send to the list.
Please join us in L102 Monday at 1pm for a virtual seminar by Hank Lamm (Fermilab)

Title: The Fate of Our Field: A Look at Quantum Utility in Particle Physics
Abstract: From colliding particles at the LHC to detecting the ripples of gravitational waves with LIGO, current experiments in high energy physics are probing new regimes of the standard model and beyond. Alas, similar progress in ab-initio predictions are stymied by the limitations of classical computational power -- despite the recent commissioning of the first exascale computers. The advent of fault-tolerant quantum computers will revolutionize the field of theoretical physics by allowing predictions otherwise inaccessible. In this talk, I will discuss how future large-scale quantum computers are necessary to push the limits of theoretical high energy physics, and how in the interim period we are being forced to reassess our computational and theoretical frameworks.
