Greetings everyone,
Please join us today, February 16, on Zoom for a JLab Theory seminar by Wim Cosyn from Florida International University. The talk will be at 1 pm ET on Zoom at the following link:
https://jlab-org.zoomgov.com/j/1601885838?pwd=pKGVSaFRZdwW6XAhdwgWrkb3PtowOi.1
For those of you at JLab, we will be streaming the talk in CC F324-325.
Please find the title and abstract below.
Title:
Tensor polarized observables for the deuteron
Abstract:
Absent for spin-1/2, tensor polarization refers to the 5 additional
polarization parameters available in the density matrix of a spin-1
ensemble. This leads to a range of new observables in measurements with
tensor polarized hadrons, where in this talk we focus on the deuteron
case. For the deuteron, even in high-energy observables, nuclear
interactions intrinsically play a role in tensor polarized observables.
I start with a pedagogical introduction to tensor polarization, cover
available data and touch on some difficulties in comparisons with
theoretical models. I discuss how light-front nuclear structure is a
natural way to describe high-energy reactions on nuclei and cover some
recent results for tensor polarized deuteron observables in the
framework. One example are tensor asymmetries in spectator tagged DIS,
which enable measurements of asymmetries with extremal values and are
high-energy observables for low-energy nuclear structure.
We're looking forward to your presence at the seminar!
Kind regards,
Adam
