Traditionally, global QCD analyses of PDFs and fragmentation functions (FFs) have been performed in completely independent studies. The JAM Collaboration,
in contrast, has carried out the first simultaneous extraction of unpolarized PDFs and FFs from a wide range of processes using Monte Carlo methods. Inclusion of the semi-inclusive DIS data reveals a strong suppression of the strange quark distribution at
parton momentum fractions x > 0.01, in contrast to ATLAS observation of enhanced strangeness in W and Z production at the LHC. In this talk I will summarize the methodology and the results of this global analysis.
