Dear Folks,
We have now installed 18 of the 30 PMT/Base combinations. One of the
bases will need to be replaced because it does not hold HV. All bases
have been checked to determine if they supply the correct voltages.
Three bases (not installed) did not supply the correct voltages and will
be returned to the manufacturer. Fortunately, USM sent several spare
bases so we do not need to repair any of the bad bases (yet).
We are currently taking data with 17 modules with an external trigger.
The goal is to gain match the tubes before installation in the hall.
The twelve channels installed yesterday all look fine.
We will finish instrumenting the detector tomorrow and begin DAQ with 24
channels at a time (the limit of our HV channels). We plan to measure
cosmics in both horizontal and vertical orientations. Four overnight
runs will let us measure all channels in both orientations.
Doug Tilles looked at the detector today and marveled at how tiny it
is. He is confident that it will be easy to install.

Sincerely,
Larry
