All Jefferson Lab computer account holders (users) who access the group
file server (currently M:\ on Windows, /group on Unix, \\jlabgrp on
Macs) will likely be impacted by the upcoming group file server split.
Please read below for details.

On December 27, 2016, IT Division will split the group file server into
two areas: open science and JSA/sensitive information. When you return
on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, you may notice a difference in how your
group directory files are accessed. We thank all the users who have
already picked up their smartcards – we passed out more than 200 in the
month of December!

When you return from the holiday shutdown, please reboot your machine to
pick up the changes to the group file server.

*Windows Users*
After the file split, the M:\ drive on Windows will point to the new
JSA/sensitive information group area. If you wish to access open science
directories, you will need to use the new O:\ drive. For those JLab
users who use UNC path names, the new JSA/sensitive information will be
referenced from \\jlabsgrp\sgroup.

*Mac Users
*Mac users typically must mount the group shares manually. The procedure
to mount the open science area and subdirectories will remain the same.
In order to access the new JSA/sensitive information group area, a Mac
will have to be managed by the Computer Center and configured to allow
local smartcard logon. The procedure for mapping the new JSA/sensitive
information group area is to use the server \\jlabsgrp and mount the
“sgroup” share.

**

*Linux Users
*Linux users wanting access to JSA/sensitive information, must be on a
Level 1, RHEL6 or RHEL7 system. After the file split, the /group area
will point to the open science group area. To access JSA/sensitive
information group directories, you will need to use /sgroup instead. Not
all machines will have access to the new /sgroup area. If you find you
need access to this area, please contact the IT Division Helpdesk:
helpdesk at jlab.org <mailto:helpdesk at jlab.org> or x7155.
