Dear Colleague,
Over the past few months, we have been worrying about the way the FY2011
budget would turn out, consequently the news has often been neutral at
best. This message brings relatively good news.
We have received information from the Office of Nuclear Physics and from
the Office of Science. The Nuclear Physics funding corresponds to the
level we have been working with all year. This will allow us to complete
the FY2011 running as planned through mid-May. In addition the 12 GeV
Upgrade Project will be funded at its full $36M level, consequently the
full suite of activities including those associated with the shutdown
should be anticipated. Further, we believe the TEDF FY2011 funding will
at least support the planned schedule. Technically, the budget is a
Continuing Resolution, so there will likely be no start for the UIM
project this year. We are trying to better understandboth the CR andhow
thework for that project will evolve.
Before going wild in celebration, it is important to remember that there
are ongoing debates with respect to FY2012. The President's Budget is on
the table and much work is needed before agreement is reached on what
will become law. Depending on how things evolve, and in order to be
prepared, we may need to react in preparation for next year. We will
attempt to keep you as well informed as possible.
Meanwhile we continue to enjoy strong support from you, the laboratory
staff, our sub-contractors, and our user community. We appreciate that
you are helpful and, importantly, attentive to your work, your health
and safety, and to the environment.
With Best Regards,
Mont
